The How-To's of Storing Your Boat or RV
Boat Storage Tips
Preparing your boat for storage - be it indoors in one of our 10'x30' units or outdoors in one of our slip spots - takes preparation. Before storing your boat, it should be Winterized. Fluids should be freshened and topped off, steering mechanism should be greased, drive belts should be removed, battery removed, ports sealed, interior cleaned and all wet items removed, and finally, the exterior waxed.
The most important item is the boat cover. From experience, a high quality canvas cover first, with a weatherproof vinyl cover over that will keep your boat protected from the harsh elements that a Western NY winter can unleash.
We found a particularly helpful guide from our friends at SpareFoot on how to store your boat. It's a pretty good resource with tons of great info in it. If you would prefer some local professional assistance, our friends at THISPLACE would be more than happy to help.
RV (Motorhome and Trailer) Storage Tips
Storing a Travel Trailer, Pop-Up Camper of 5th Wheel Trailer does pose some specific needs. While typically built and ready for harsh elements, considerations should be made to ensure your unit comes out the way it went in. First, the water system must be winterized to prevent catastriphic and expensive repairs. The LP canisters should be removed, and all valves should be closed. Ideally, the unit should have no food inside as critters will move in. Please consult your owners manual for additiona information specific to your unit regarding storage.
For motorhomes, take heed to all of the above, as well as mechanical items. Disconnect and perhaps remove batteries, check tires to ensure they are chocked and clear of debris (tire covers recommended). Consult with your owners manual for specific instructions catered to your RV.
